Devotees at Shree Bhadrakali Devasom Temple, in the Kollemcode region of Kanyakumari district in Tamil Nadu have gracefully celebrated the Pongala festival on 23rd of April 2018. This is a most awaited spiritual gathering after the Thookam festival which was on 21st of March 2018 this year. Lordess Bhadrakali is believed to be the most efficient Lordess in fulfilling the wishes of the devotees here. Like every year, this year also the devotees have gathered with lots of energy and devotion with hopes of abundant blessings from their Lordess.
Kollemcode is a beautiful region on the Tamil Nadu and Kerala border. So, ladies from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, begin their preparation atleast one week before the Pongala. It is a tradition to offer Pongala in fresh new mud pots. The word 'Pongala' means to 'boil over'. It is a ritualistic offering of porridge made of rice, sweet brown molasses, coconut gratings, nuts and raisins. This delicious porridge is considered to be the favorite dish of Lordess Bhadrakali.
On the Pathamudayam day of the Malayalam month 'Medam' - April, the devotees observe Pongala rituals in and around the Temple. 'Leksharchana' is the most important part of the 'Ponagala Mahostava'. People come in huge numbers with their wishes and prayer offerings to the Lord Almighty. This Temple which is located in the heart of Kollemcode district of Tamil Nadu, is dedicated to Lordess Bhadrakali, who is an incarnation of Lordess Durga. Lordess Durga has been believed to save the people from the trials and troubles of Kali Yuga. It is a very essential pilgrimage centre in this location. After the Pongala the devotees left the Temple by wholeheartedly thanking their Lordess, and they are now waiting to celebrate this festival with more eagerness and enthusiasm in the next year.
