Online taxis soon in Kerala

Online taxi services like Uber and Ola has been decided to be implemented by the Kerala State government. This service will be implemented in Trivandrum, Kochi and Kozhikode districts in Kerala. The State government has decided this in association with Motor Transport Workers Welfare Fund Board, Motor Vehiles Department and Legal Metrology Department.

In Kozhikode, the government has entrusted Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society Ltd. (ULCCS) to provide the necessary primary technical support for the project. More than 5 lakhs taxi cars and auto rickhsaws have registered with the State Motor Transport Workers Welfare Fund Board. It is decided to form a cooperative society. But the vehicles need to have GPS(Global Positioning System) enabled. The charge for this will be take by the vehicle owner itself. It will amount to around Rs. 12,500. Subsidy will be provided by the government for those taking bank loans for this facility. Along with routes and distance of travel, the screens will be displaying commercials too.
 
This facility of commercials is a benefit for the taxi owners. As the cost earned by showing these commercials will be given to the labors. The idea behind the online taxi services is to provide an end to the crisis faced by motor labors up to a certain limit. “ The technicalities required for the implementation of this project should be given to labors free of cost”, says KS Sunil Kumar, State President, Kerala State Auto Taxi and Light Motor Workers Federation.
 
 
This decision of the government is welcomed by all, but with hopes and wishes that it will benefit not only the laboureres but all the passengers to  a great extent. People will find it very useful, if it proves its availability especially during emergencies. This service will extend to other districts in Kerala, if the project is found to be successful.

Strikes ? Hartals ? Bandhs ?  It takes a few seconds for me, to recollect and understand the difference between strikes, bandhs and hartals. But yes I must say, when you speak about the beauty of Kerala you cannot miss your thoughts on the ' Hartal state'. Injustice for Justice ???

The Central government has cleared the elevation of senior lawyer Indu Malhotra as the Supreme Court judge. By this elevation she becomes the first women lawyer to become the judge of the Apex court directly by the recommendation of the bar. The elevation of Justice KM Joseph of the Uttarakhand High Court is kept on hold. The file of the collegium recommendation was sent to the Apex court on 22 nd of January 2018, and the processing was over by the first week of February 2018. But the decision was kept on abeyance as Justice KM Joseph could not be elevated....
