Thrissur Pooram- Safe Pooram !!!

Thrissur's Sub Collector Ms. Renu Raj is personally experiencing and watching Thrissur Pooram today the 25th of April 2018, at the Vadakkunnathan Temple. In her interview with Asianet News Channel she assured that all required measures are taken towards the safety and precaution of all the devotees and visitors of this event. Keeping the public at a distance during the bursting of crackers may interfere the fun element for the viewers, but it is strictly for their safety. She said that everything is expected to go on smoothly from the safety point of view.

The annual event commenced at 7 am today morning with the arrival of deity Kanimangalam Shastavu. At 11 am the procession from the Nadakkavu Monastery was scheduled. At 12.30 am the deity was taken out of Paramekkavu Bhagawathy Temple. Other rituals were followed subsequently. Parakkad Thankappan Marar will lead the last ritual the Panchavadyam for the day, at 11 pm.

 This 36 hour festival is one of the most colorful and popular festivals of Kerala. On Thursday i.e., 26th of April 2018 the fireworks will begin at 3 am and will last for more than 2 hours. All processions of this year will get over at 9 am. The security and safety of all those present will be taken care of, and preparations for it by the concerned departments had begun much before the Pooram.

Strikes ? Hartals ? Bandhs ?  It takes a few seconds for me, to recollect and understand the difference between strikes, bandhs and hartals. But yes I must say, when you speak about the beauty of Kerala you cannot miss your thoughts on the ' Hartal state'. Most of the time people in India use this as their medium to communicate, or to convey their pain, or even their demands. What makes me wonder is, is this the only way? Shutting down shops, burning of buses,cancelling trains etc, are these the only things that we can do? Injustice for Justice ???

The Central government has cleared the elevation of senior lawyer Indu Malhotra as the Supreme Court judge. By this elevation she becomes the first women lawyer to become the judge of the Apex court directly by the recommendation of the bar. The elevation of Justice KM Joseph of the Uttarakhand High Court is kept on hold. The file of the collegium recommendation was sent to the Apex court on 22 nd of January 2018, and the processing was over by the first week of February 2018. But the decision was kept on abeyance as Justice KM Joseph could not be elevated....
